Ethna Gillespie

Ethna is married with three boys Stuart,Niel & Andrew and five grandchildren. She first joined the club in Feb 2000 as a brand new recruit.

Ethna was a complete novice when she arrived but took to archery like a duck to water.Ethna’s style is Hunting Tackle. Since being introduced by her husband Jim and being taught by Nev Wilson who was N.F.A.S coach at the time,Ethna has become one of the best lady H T competitors in the country and through practice and dedication has achieved many trophies and medals.

One of her greatest achievments  is winning the Victor LadorumTrophy twice at the Devon Challenge 8 Day Shoot once in 2002 and again in 2005, Ethna’s major contribution to the success of the C of G is her imput into the catering at open shoots.

During the years she has been at the C of G she has been at the forefront with Rita Stroud in the success of the catering facilities enjoyed at Cloth of Gold Field Archery Club.

Although Ethna started late in life she is enjoying archery and has started to introduce her grandchildren into the sport, lets hope her skills can be passed down to the future generation of young archers. Ethna was part of a successful team of Course officers who have put on courses at open shoots One of her latest successes was winning the first U.K R100 Ladies H.T section in February 2005 and 3rd Ladies H.T. 3 D National Championship Shepton Mallett 2005.

After suffering a stroke in Oct 2005 Ethna’s archery was severely curtailed.  At the 2006  A G M Ethna was made an Honorary Member for her service to the Club.
