Archery Brace

How long does it usually take for a rotary cuff injury to heal completely?
About 2 years ago I hurt my shoulder, went to the doc they said I might've tore my rotary cuff or possible muscle in my shoulder. A week later I went to the Alberta Winter games for Archery, they gave the "go to" saying i was allowed, but after that I was signed up for laser treatment on my shoulder to help heal the muscle faster. and just this monday I strained my rotary cuff, my doc says just to get a shoulder brace. -.-" but i've been having problem from 2 years ago til now...I've had to quit archery but I'm in karate now (to help build up the muscle a bit.) and my shoulder would give-out every now and then or pop out of place. But seriously...how long would it take to heal completely? Docs say no surgery because they insist that it'll heal up on it's own. oh, btw, I'm 15.
Rotator cuff injuries take a long time to heal. They can take up to 2 years to be completely healed enough to allow resumption of all activities. While most people can go back to normal activities after 6 months to a year. At your age the blood supply to the rotator cuff is still intact and that should help to speed up the healing process. I would like you to try these movements to see if they take away your pain. They are not going to seem related to the shoulder but in reality they are. Sit in a chair and turn your head to the left as far as you can and note the endpoint of that rotation. Then turn to the right and note that endpoint. You will find that one direction goes further than the other. I want you to start in the direction that went the furthest. Turn the head in that direction as hard and far as you can for 30 seconds and then rest for 15 seconds. Repeat this cycle twice more. Now do the same in the opposite direction exactly the same way 3 times. Now keep the feet and hips planted and twist the body to the left as far as you can and note the endpoint. Now twist to the right as far as you can and note the endpoint. You will find that one direction went further than the other. Start with the direction that went the furthest. Twist in that direction as hard and far as you can for 30 seconds and then rest for 15 seconds. Repeat this cycle twice more in that direction and then do the same for the opposite direction 3 times. Now I want you to use the uninjured arm. This movement can be done either sitting or standing. Bring the arm halfway between being straight out in front of you and straight out to the side. The arm is now in that position and I want you to lift it up against something so that the arm will not raise up. Make this up as high as you can. Push up as hard as you can for 30 seconds and then rest for 15 seconds. Repeat this twice more and then do the same with the injured arm. After the last attempt move the arm around. The shoulder should have more range of motion and strength. Do this series of movements at least twice a day and you should find a regaining of strength and movement if that has been lost. Lastly, I would like you to take some dumbbells. Start with the uninjured side first. Take a weight that is fairly comfortable for you and lift it up from the shoulder 10 times. Rest for 1 minute and then repeat that movement again but this time use a heavier weight. Rest for 1 minute and then use a weight that is hard for you to do 10 times. Now using the lightest weight do the same lift from the shoulder 10 times. Rest for the minute and if that was not difficult move to the next heaviest weight. Again do this 10 times if possible and then rest for a minute. If the weight is a struggle move back to the lighter weight and do a set of 10. Rest and then do another set of 10. With time you will be able to increase the resistance factor. Now if that weight was not too much for you progress on to the heavier weight and do a set of 10. Do this at least twice a day and the shoulder will regain the necessary strength.
