Read the Complete Review of Cuddeback Excite Camera
Cuddeback Excite Camera Review: I recently took out the Cuddeback Excite Camera to the woods and gave it a few tests and for the most part I was pleased with the results that I got.
The First Time Out
Setting up the Excite Camera was pretty simple. I really don't want to spend a lot of time on the setup of a camera and this one was straightforward and easy to use. The instructions are clear and the buttons and functions are easy to follow. I set up the camera on a tree looking over a trail that I figured would have a good amount of deer passing through and left it for about three weeks before I went back and picked it up. When I took a look at the images they were pretty good. The Excite is a 2.0 megapixel camera, and the resolution is fair. There were a few shots that ended up a little blurry but not that many and I was happy with the number of shots that turned out well. When I got the camera it still had battery life and some room on the SD card so I could have left it a little longer but I was anxious to see how it did.
The Second Time Out
This time I chose a different location, out near a field that the deer were known to frequent. I left it for about the same amount of time and then went out to get it. I was pretty frustrated when I got back to view the images however. There were nothing but shots with only a couple of deer over the entire SD card. I guess that the sensor was triggered by a branch moving in the wind and the camera just kept taking shots. I don't know if this was because of my placement, as the first batch had turned out but boy was that a letdown. This may have been my fault as I had the sensitivity setting on high. I didn't get another chance to test it out but next time I will give the low sensitivity setting a try and see if I can get better results.
Overall Impressions
The Excite is easy to use, and at least on my first test I found that the picture quality is sufficient. One thing that is really nice about this camera is that the trigger speed is really fast. For the set of shots that worked out, the only ones that weren't that great were the ones that were a little blurry but there weren't any missed shots because of slow trigger speed. Battery life is pretty decent, both times I put it out it did not run out of batteries so that is a good thing.
One thing that the camera could use is an infrared flash. The conventional flash means better quality pictures but the infrared flash does not spook the game and it will not alert other people to the location of the camera. I think that this is a good product for the price and I would buy one again.
