Archery Set Beginner
Best Bow And Arrow Set?
What is the best bow and arrow set to get for beginners and where could I find it?
I am looking for my cousins: female age 19, male age 9, my sister: female age 14, and my friend: male age 18.
Oh, and this is for a normal archery range, not hunting.
30 lbs recurve for a 9 year old boy will make sure that boy will never shoot again the rest of his life.
Find a good archery range, go to www.usarchery.org and go under JOAD if you're in the US.
Go through one of those programs, and also keep an eye on the poundage they're pushing to you. Any program that try to push young kids too far up in poundage too early is no good. Under 16, keep that poundage under 30 for recurve, even after a year of shooting, for compound you can go higher. For a first bow, for a recurve, get something in the 18-20 lbs range if you feel that the person is very strong. I've seen adults say that a bow is light and yet they're shaking like a leaf when they pull it back, this is with an 18 lbs bow. Getting a bow that is too heavy will at best result in frustration, at worst it will result in injury. Keep it light, learn good form and have fun.
If you can't find a range, then try an archery store, often times they have an indoor range with equipment for rent. Try them out first before you buy.
