I just got a bow (archery)?
I just got a Bear Polar II bow and from my friend who's dad is a hunter. I've never seen such a high-tech bow and i have absolutely no idea how to use it. I'm just trying to figure out why it has 3 strings instead of 1. where can i find out more about this bow and how to actually shoot arrows accurately.
please don't say anything such as "don't use them, they're dangerous" etc.
The bow you have is a Compound Bow. One of the strings is the actual string, the other two are called cables. The actual string will have a center part that is thicker, this is called the center serving.
The first thing you need to figure out is how heavy this bow is and if it's too heavy for you. Your friend's dad should be able to help out here. To learn to use it properly I advise you seek out a range rather than a shop. Go to http://www.usarchery.org, if you're in the US and find a range near you under the Directory Search. If there is none then go find a good archery store, under the Directory Search on that site you'll also find a list of coaches, give them a call and they can point you to the stores. If there are none of those around you either, then you can resort to going to big box sporting good stores like Cabelas and such.
