Brian Boon

Brian’s first foray into Archery in a serious way was in 1957 while doing his National Service in the Army in Belgium. His training was in Target Archery by a G N A S coach. After leaving the Army he joined the Ashcam Bowmen in 1964 where he got his first try at Field Archery under the B.F.A.A. banner becoming the South Eastern Field Champion in 1965.He then joined the Longbow Medieval Re-enactment Society at Platt in Kent. For a while Brian worked in the Archery Shop in Hoddesdon. He went to the Scottish Champs in Fife in 1967.

Brian was a founder member at Broxbourne Bowmen in 1976, where he met Norman Bird and Ray Ellis who are both long serving members of Cloth of Gold.

He joined Cloth of Gold in 2004 on the recommendation of Norman Bird. After completing his mandatory three sessions down the woods, he has been pretty active attending both Club and local N F A S open shoots. Brian shot the Master Hunter Patch in 2004. He attended the National Champs last year (2005) in the Hunting Tackle section.

This year 2006 Brian volunteered to be Coarse Officer being responsible for a third of the course at the Open Shoot on May 14th 2006. This is a good response as he has only been a member for just over twelve months. He represented the club at the H.N.A. Triple Challenge Shoot in February. Brian hopes to visit more Open Shoots and become more involved with Club activities. As he enjoyed his previous experiences he hopes to be able to continue in much the same way in the future.
