Dave
is married to Star - she also shoots occasionally. Dave first started archery with
the Aquarius Archery Club during the 1980’s to the mid 1990’s. He joined the
Cloth of Gold in 2000. He at present shoots a Longbow but has recently taken
to the Mongolian flatbow (Traditional). Dave (Lobby) is a very good member of the club;
he is dedicated and loyal to the club to the extent that he spends a good
percentage of his archery time working at the woods. He along with others was instrumental
in helping with the erection of the Shelter.
He mainly practices on a Saturday but when we
have an open shoot he is always there making a contribution to the event, be it
in the form of manual work or suggestions on the woods environmental needs. He
with his friend Alan is very keen on conservation, so it stands to reason that
he is an asset to the Club. As he is married to Star and she is an Outreach
Manager with the Parks Dept she and he have inside knowledge as to the
environmental needs of the woods.
Dave is also very handy at Leatherwork; and
making Archery accessory equipment, his work is of outstanding quality. He is
also interested in Archery history. As he comes from Cornwall he was brought up a true countryman
both in looks and attitude. Cloth of Gold relies on members like this.
At the 2006 A G M Mo Gibbons resigned as Chairman. Dave bravely
stepped in and was elected Chairman of Cloth of Gold. We can be sure Dave will
continue to give good service to Club as he has done since he became a member.
