what pound bow should i get?
looking to get longbow or recurve. i would like to be able to take some big game elk bear moose. and white tale of course
compounds are guns now. its too easy i like traditional bows something that involves some skill. not just get you sight sighted in and aim shot thats just not fun... so im going back to vintage. and a fools idea? my dad shot the 5th largest bear in north America the year he shot his with a bow. Its not a fools idea its passion and it is more rewarding than anything. 60# is what i was thinking but i was considering 55# even. anyone with more real experiance?
You are right Andrew, it is a passion and not a fools idea.And there are a lot of people that are going back to the simpler bows and enjoying the hunting and bow shooting more then ever.I killed my first 15 or so deer with a recurve and wish I had never changed to a compound. The traditional shooters have the most fun. And the greatest sense of satisfaction when they are successful with a kill. Get something in the 50-60 lb draw range and be prepared to spend a lot of time practicing. Get away from the lighter arrows that a compound prefers and use a heavier arrow and a broadhead such as a Zwickey or a Magnus Stinger, with the Zwickey being the most durable of the two. And remember the most important thing of all- Speed doesn't kill- accuracy kills! Congratulations on your decision on becoming a traditional hunter. I tip my hat to you!
