Longbows Recurves
what is a good brand of bow for competitive archery?
if the price is right, i'd like to get a competitive longbow. but i'm also looking at just regular recurves. i'm on kind of a budget, but i'm open to any suggestions.
If you're new to archery I would definitely suggest looking at competitive Compound Bow shooting(if that exists, but I'm sure it does), as any issues you have with form will be easy to pin down as form issues because of the sights, and even form issues will be easy to remedy because of the let-off. When you've got your form down then you should sell the compound for a recurve, since your skill will transfer easier than to a longbow.
I would try Bear, Martin and Hoyt. I know Hoyt bows are up to competition standards, but price I have no clue, Bear you can get for under $400 easily, but I'm not sure if they're up to competition standard, and Martin I have no idea for either, but I don't think that Martin's are cheap, since they're handmade. I can guarantee you won't get much for under $350, except for secondhand, for which I would try craigslist, make sure you test fire whatever bow you do buy, and that you ignore price and looks for how good the bow feels when you shoot.
