why do you use a releaser thing for Compound Bows but not recurve bows?
The mechanical release was originally invented for the recurve bow. It just never took off and none of the competitions ever allowed for the release to be used on recurves. Later on when the compound was invented, since it was a new class and all, the release was adopted for the bow.
The thumb ring or the Japanese shooting gloves were actually two types of Release Aid for the recurve/longbow. The Japanese shooting glove for one is used much like a modern BT release on a compound. When used properly the release occured when enough tension goes over the back of the archer and changes the angle of the hand ever so slightly.
Now, going back to modern day, you can use a mechanical release on a recurve, however, other than rules of competition, the arrow rests made for recurves are not designed for release shooting. You see when you use a release, the pressure on the arrow is vertical. The arrow will bend on the vertical plane. When shooting with fingers, the arrows bend on the horizontal plane. This is why recurves only have one type of rest, the flipper style rest. So if you can rig a recurve with a drop down rest, and you don't care about competing, then yes you can use a mechanical release on it.
