Virginia Tech: Maybe there is something We Can Do

Following the tragic events at Virginia Tech, I was reluctant to anger and fear I experienced reminded after 9 / 11 It's all just so shattering - to my reality, my sense of justice and my belief in the goodness of man. And it really pisses me off. The dark Side of me wants the killer had survived only so that we as a society, it could be punished, and threw our venom on him in our spare time.

Soon are the rage, revenge and frustration replaced by a foreboding sense of hopelessness, and a sad resignation that this senseless tragedy could repeat very well. And that made me really pissed.

But today I got an e-mail message from my friend, Becca Fuller, in which together, a suggestion, given that her brother-in-law, Jeff. A light came at the end of the tunnel. And so I share the seeds of hope with you. Thank you, Becca, and pass on my gratitude to your brother-in-law.

Hear me out.

Many Americans, myself among them feel that people do indeed have the right to bear arms. Although I personally prefer not to participate, I fully recognize that other to take advantage of ready and able to own and responsible firearms. After all, it is a piece of what we as a nation of cowboys, explorers, gold miners and pioneers.

But I'll be damned if I think that right extends to the likes of Cho Seung-Hui. Do not you dare The 2nd wave Change for me and complain about the rights of every person to possess a handgun. There is no way in hell that Cho a right to own a handgun had. He was a sicko, and what is more, many people knew it. But unfortunately the guy who sold him the gun do not know. And the state of Virginia did not know. And 25,999 of the 26,000 students at Virginia Tech did not know.

I can not help but think that if one of the dozens of people that Cho's psychotic behavior and violence met (he was arrested and required treatment for mental health issues), let the gun shops had to know that Cho was capable of heinous, something do, he would not be able to buy up to 32 people, the weapon that killed. (And Puh-lease do not give me a ration of BS about "Guns do not do not kill people. "I guaran-damn-tee that no one would die if Cho had to have been using a slingshot.)

So why not anyone know that Cho had been in a mental hospital and he went through the State of Virginia as someone who claims to be doing and others could have been marked? As Jeff asked:

"How is it that a disturbed student who shocked his classmates and teachers, who in the administration of the University and the police has been reported, because his writings were so disturbing and violent, which investigated by police for stalking women, who she sees an imminent threat for themselves and others as a result of mental illness is, had threatened suicide, the prescription of medication for his mental problems - how is it that this young man could walk into a store and pistol, with a one-minute background check to go with a pistol he used to kill 32 others and yourself?

For the all-powerful NRA lobby effectively making it virtually impossible to obtain these weapons information in the hands of the People that sell. In the name of the 2nd Change has, these billion-dollar trade group every responsible effort to free sale of small arms control thwarted. It took less than 30 minutes after the killing of NRA supporters to hit the airwaves to warn people not allow their feelings to them from those the "well the 2nd Amendment" try to be manipulated. Wow! Let your emotions about the senseless killing of innocent people of automatic weapons in the hands of lunatics influence on your thinking about whether we need stricter control of these weapons. God forbid!

Let's not turn this into a debate whether or not responsible Americans should be allowed their weapons. They should. But crazy, whacked-out, psychotic, suicidal risk sociopaths should not be allowed to possess weapons. What is so hard to understand about that? Does anyone really think it would be "good" 2 Amendment rights of Americans to bear arms, if we implemented some effective measure of control that it can not villains like Cho massacre of innocent people? Former NRA President Bob Corbin, who is also the Former Arizona Attorney General, said, "they should not see the person the gun."

Nice idea, Bob. Other than that the NRA gun lobby has it virtually impossible to look at the person "only after they shed the blood.

I applaud much of what the NRA and I'm not happy we have their perspective and energy to many questions. I will have the right to a gun if I actually own one or not. And I want freedom for my family and protect me from violent attacks. But the NRA seems to take over the case, that tragedies like the Virginia Tech massacre are unacceptable consequences to ensure that this right is completely in full. Actually sounds like the rhetoric I hear attack gun control efforts as "un-American assault on the Constitution the United States "is a whole lot like the diatribe I've heard characterizing criticism of the Iraq war as a" hate America "or" support the troops. "Such senseless dribble only serves to distract serious and responsible discussion, how to preserve what about the 2nd Amendment good while also dealing the senseless carnage, we have screwed up experience too often in the hands of lunatics.

This is not about whether Americans, as a society, should this right have. It's about how we hold the Chos of the world using this right brutal attack, the very society. The NRA and its followers are not willing to engage in the discussion. In fact, they regard any attempt to the sale of small arms control, an all-attack on their mission. What a shame that responsible hunters, sportsmen Protect and maintain painted with the same brush sickos like Cho, because the billion-dollar gun lobby refuses to support responsible gun control policy.

So, back to my friend Becca, and her brother-in-law, Jeff. Jeff presented the following:

"My memory of the victims is a $ 33 contribution - a small Dollars for each life lost - to "www.bradycampaign.org" - to help ... Fight for strict gun control laws. I appeal to all those who are outraged by Monday to do the same monumental tragedy. "

Sounds good to me. Maybe if Millions of people their anger and grief in a few dollars donation we were able to translate the deep pockets of the gun manufacturers and the NRA. Perhaps we could look forward to a world in which we live not in fear of sending our children to school or college. You can donate online with your debit or credit card and what's more, a generous anonymous donor has agreed to match all contributions this year to $ 500,000! Your gift will be worth twice today!

I pray that good, intelligent, loyal Americans of all political parties and movements is a public and strong to take against this senseless violence. By all means, have your guns if You have to. But for the good of our society and our children, not ignore what just to your right to keep these weapons have happened. Do something. Please.

At first, Travis couldn't stand the sight of Old Yeller. The stray dog was ugly, and a thieving rascal, too. But he sure was clever, and a smart dog could be a big help on the wild Texas frontier, esp...
