Inter Club Triple Challenge 25th February 2007

Report by Nev Wilson

The annual Triple Challenge Trophy between clubs Company of Sixty, Cloth of Gold and H N A took place at Cloth of Gold’s ground at Enfield. This was the fourth year that this most enjoyable event has taken place and the first time that a new Club has managed to wrench it from the Cloth of Gold.

Assembly was called at approx 10.30; a few late arrivals were still drifting in as Bryan Piper (Shoot Administrator) called groups together for the team photo’s which Geoff Taylor took with a bit of harassing from Nev Wilson to form the said teams. Once this was completed the groups were divided into two sections C of 60 on one side (as this was the single largest group) and all the rest on the other side. At this point Bryan chose two from C of 60 and then matched them up with two or three from the rest of the assembled archers. This was to complete a pleasant mix of beginners and experienced archers. The groups were then allocated target No’s and Bryan, Dave and Rick took out parties to their respective targets. The shoot started on three blasts of the whistle. At some stage of the course all groups had to pass through the camp area where Dave Lobb was on hand to serve free coffee and tea, but participants had to provide their own food.

This was a very successful and enjoyable shoot and after presentations to the winners, Terry & Lucy Cramp, Mick & Ron Bailey broke out a bottle of wine to celebrate.

The shoot was won by Company of Sixty and very well deserved it was too.

The course was laid by Dave Lobb, Dave Peircy and Lionel Rodriguez with help from a few old established members Jamie & Anne Ward etc, but a large contribution this year stemmed from brand new members Richard Harris(not yet full membership), Alberto Martinelli and Bert’s son-in-law Richard Paxford, making for a very successful shoot.

The course consisted of eighteen 3D ‘s set out in the top end of the woods.  This was to be shot twice round making 36 targets to complete the course. The Marshall’s on the day were Rick Jeffers, Mark Templeman and Richard Harris (carrying first aid kit).  A few targets were very strategically placed to bring out the very best in the Archers that turned out to shoot.  The numbers of Archers that attended were Company of Sixty 17,  H N A  6,  Cloth of Gold 13.  The rest of club members that were there on the day were gainfully employed, Car Parking, Cleaning Up, Toilet duty, etc.

With such short notice Cloth of Gold did a very fine job to put such a small compact course and an enjoyable day was had by all of the participants.
