Shoot Report

  Report by Nev Wilson

The 8th of Jan 2006 First Sunday in the New Year brought a good turn out for the Cloth of Gold’s first club shoot for club members only.  The day started off cold and overcast with the threat of rain in the air. For the 33 members that tuned up to shoot it needed something special to clear the gloom, as it turned out it did just that. It was a Wassails Shoot consisting of twenty targets in the top end of the woods. The two members who volunteered for this were, Shaun Grundon and Dave Humphries with help from both their boys and friends. It was left entirely to the course officers to place and pick the kind of targets they had decided on, and very devious they were. It had some good and very interesting features, penguins sliding down hill with parcels between their feet, but hit the penguin and you got no points so no matter how accurate you were when you got to the target the good shot was all for nothing, as the penguin was not the target the parcels were.

I am afraid poor old Dave Piercy got the wooden spoon because his luck was right out the window. He hit too many penguins and not enough parcels. But Stan Seymour‘s luck was in he got the highest score of the day of 320. By out thinking the devious course setters he hit three parcels for 90 points on one target. Everyone at some time during the course was caught out by the carefully thought out target settings. Many thanks must go to Wally Robson who kept the whole group supplied with warm Mull Wine and Mince pies.

The club organised prizes for the top score and bottom score in each gender. So Stan Seymour took the male top score and Dave Peircy the lowest but he still did better than the rest of us, because he took home a bottle of wine. The junior Boys were the same with Ben Humphries Top Score and Kieron Grundon the lowest. The female winner was Shirley Seymour and the wooden spoon went to Lesley Burton-Brown, the Cubs all went home happy with a bag of goodies each. After the formalities were completed all went home feeling they have had an enjoyable days shooting.

Well Done Cloth of Gold Members. We had another successful Shoot.
